Maroondah City Council is once again holding the Young Leaders Program, a week-long interactive personal development program offered by Council’s Youth Services Team to Year 10 students from secondary schools across Maroondah.
Councillor Alex Makin said Year 10 students attending secondary school within Maroondah are invited to apply to be part of the program which will run from Monday 4 to Friday 8 May.
“The Young Leaders Program provides a safe and supportive environment for young people to challenge themselves and grow in self-confidence in a week long program of learning,” said Cr Makin.
“The Young Leaders Program aims to empower young people to participate more confidently and effectively in their school and local community by assisting them to develop and refine their skills and knowledge in regards to leadership, communication, participation, group dynamics, decision-making, public speaking, assertiveness and conflict resolution,” said Cr Makin.
“This year we are also including a second phase to the program – a Community Action Project. This means that Young Leaders participants will have the opportunity to go on to take part in a 12-week community-oriented project where they will address the needs of young people in Maroondah,” said Cr Makin.
Year 10 students who are interested in applying will need to speak with their Year 10 Co-ordinators who will be able to provide them with a Nomination Form.
