The Seniors Festival is held from the 3rd of October through to the 10th and Maroondah holds a range of activities for seniors throughout the festival.
The Seniors Festival is designed to empower seniors and to highlight the activities and groups that focus on the needs of senior residents. This morning I had the pleasure of launching Maroondah’s Seniors Expo, an information day held at Eastland and supported by many of the senior based groups within the municipality.
The speech I provided is available within this entry:
Maroondah City Council, in the spirit of reconciliation, acknowledges that we are meeting on the land for which the Wurundjeri people have been custodians for many centuries.
Welcome to the 2010 Maroondah Seniors Festival, it is great to see many community groups here today, including our Historical Societies, Ringwood and Croydon U3A, National Seniors Association, Enjoying Planned Retirement, the Ringwood Bowls Club and our senior citizen groups.
The Seniors Festival is a celebration of Maroondah’s seniors, who make a significant contribution to the community. Maroondah is fortunate to have 24 senior based groups within Maroondah and I encourage each of you to become involved in these groups and to share your enthusiasm, experiences and skills.
I would like to thank Eastland for their assistance in providing this area for Expo promotion, usage of equipment and for their assistance in helping to set up for the program and also to thank the many people who were involved in creating today’s expo.
I trust that you will enjoy today’s proceedings and the activities that are held throughout the Maroondah Seniors Festival.
