This evening, Port Phillip Council adopted substantially revised Dog Off-Leash Guidelines, removing the punitive and anti-dog narrative that would have resulted in off-leash spaces.

The reversal of Council’s approach is a significant win for the community and plans for both current and future needs.

This result is only possible due to the steadfast dedication of many members of our community, all who worked collaboratively from across Port Phillip to expect better from Council.

The collaboration culminated of approximately 2,500 signatures calling on Council to:

• No net loss of dog off-leash spaces
• Provision of additional dog off-leash spaces commensurate to the current and future dog population

The petition was lodged to Council and helped Council recognise the importance of our dog community.

Importantly we now have a strong collective across the dog community to keep Council accountable on the commitments it made.
