Inside Montague Ward and a Council Campaign

Inside Montague Ward

Montague is the largest of the Port Phillip council wards covering 4 sq km compared to an average of 2.4, largely due to expected future population growth in Fishermans Bend.

Montague Ward, as the smallest of the wards in terms of elector population, has less than 5,000 households even when incorporating non-resident ratepayers.

As of the 2024 Port Phillip Council election there were a total of 7,316 electors in the Montague ward, which equates to 4,485 individual households.

So, Montague Ward has less than 5,000 households over 4sq km – how do you reach every single voter and share a vision of a well governed, community focused Council?

Local, independent and community powered

As a genuinely community based candidate that lives locally in Nott Street, I’m grateful to the community for their support.

The fact that so many volunteers are willing to dedicate their spare time to my campaign, shows a shared commitment to community. I am proud of my community and the fact that we did not need to rely on paid services or outside organisations to distribute leaflets, doorknock or stand in front of shops.

Over 20 volunteers, all living locally, supported my campaign through letterboxing, doorknocking, putting up posters and other signage. Combined, these wonderful community members and I covered the 4 sq km of Montague not just once, not just twice, but over multiple occasions.

I do not have the backing of any political party, and I am entirely self-funding this campaign. Without volunteers, without their commitment, I would not be a candidate and we would risk a Council dominated by party political interests from people live living outside the ward they want to represent.

Thank you to everyone who is sharing this journey – together we will be Making it Happen for Montague.

Ballots have arrived from 7 October so please Vote 1 Alex Makin and then number every box in order of your preference.
